Great... So What?
(How Augments Work)

Once you posess an item with an empty augment slot of a particular type AND an augment which will go into that gear (and, hopefully, would result in a combination that you can equip and will benefit from):

1. Augmenting Items: Find an Augmentation Pool. These are variously called chessboards or birdbaths; they are located at LDoN camps, in the Guild Hall, and in the Bazaar. Left-click it. A special two-slot tradeskill-like container should open. Place the augment in one slot, and the gear to be augmented in the other, and click combine; you will get a confirmation dialog box.

2. Unaugmenting Items: You have two options here, either (cheaply) destroying the augment, removing it from your item and the game, or (in cost scaling with the potency of the augment) safely removing the augment for reuse/resale.

Destroying the Augment. Go to any LDoN or GoD transportation Magus and buy Augmentation Solvent for slot 1, 2, or 3 (not for slot by type, but by actual slot number - I know this is confusing, but it will make sense shortly).

-OR-

Safely Removing the Augment. Go to Mimzit Furnov (Butcherblock LDoN camp), the vendor gnome in the guild hall, or Quartermaster Andoro in Arcstone, and buy the Augmentation Distiller for class I - XVIII augments (by class, not slot).

-THEN-

Once you have obtained your fluid of choice, left-click an augmentation pool, place the augmented item to be unaugmented in one slot, and the appropriate Solvent (destroyer) or Distiller (remover) in the other slot. The appropriate augment (for gear with more than one slot) should be highlighted and the remove/destroy button available if you have a valid combo, or else you should get a message that there is no augment which that distiller will remove. You will get a confirmation dialog box.

The Adventurer's Stone - a decent Augment for your Charm
(compiled from various sources)

1. Chatting NPCs: For every two wins in a particular theme, you can chat up an npc for more lore. Each theme has a different npc to chat with. Within each theme, the primary lore npc will send you off to someone else at 15 wins; that npc will return you to the primary at 30; primary sends you elsewhere at 50; and finally, this other npc sends you back to primary to top off the progression for that theme at 68 to 78 wins (varies by theme). While you can get new lore for every second win in a particular theme, the Adventurer's Stone upgrades occur less frequently.

2. Upgrading the HP and Mana:
For the first ten wins in a particular theme, if you have done your chatting, your augment will receive +2 to HP and Mana (you will see a lesser return while you are under the recommended level of 65).

3. Upgrading the Stats and Resists: For every five of these HP/Mana upgrades (regardless of which theme(s) they were earned in), you will also receive +1 to each stat and to each resist (you will see a lesser return while you are under the recommended level of 65).

4. Final Reward: Once you have had your 68 to 78 wins in each theme, and have done all of your chatting, you will be sent to yet another npc, where you can trade in your Adventurer's Stone for a Wayfarer's Brotherhood Emblem. Grats! Final reward is 100 HP/Mana/End, 10 AC, 10 to all Saves, 10 to all Stats

For each mission, you will receive an upgrade to your augment; however, stats are not visible until it is augmented to your charm. The upgrades progress as described below, resulting in a nice companion augment to your Adventurer's Stone put on your DoN Charm, which can take two augments. Final reward is 50 HP/Mana/End, 10 AC, 10 to all Saves, 15 to all Stats
